In a recent government meeting, the Nampa Planning and Zoning Commission discussed two significant zoning applications that could impact local development.
The first item on the agenda was a zoning map amendment for a 1.18-acre parcel located at 0 Chisholm Drive. The proposal, presented by Steve Thiesen of Hatch Design Architecture, sought to rezone the property from Light Industrial (IL) to Community Business (BC) to align with the zoning of adjacent properties. This change is intended to facilitate a future property boundary adjustment. Thiesen emphasized that the proposed land use is consistent with the city’s comprehensive plan, which designates the area for commercial use. Following a brief public hearing with no opposition, the commission unanimously recommended approval of the rezone, which will now proceed to the city council for final consideration.
The second item involved an annexation and zoning request for a 0.67-acre site at 4717 Airport Road, presented by Curtis Stoddard of Sun Peak Development LLC. This application aims to continue operations for a playground equipment contracting business that has been in place for 40 years. Planning and Zoning Director Rodney Ashby noted that the county had identified the business as out of compliance and suggested annexation as a solution. The area is characterized by a mix of industrial and residential uses, and the proposed zoning aligns with the city’s comprehensive plan. After a brief discussion and no public testimony against the application, the commission moved to recommend approval, allowing the business to operate legally within the city limits.
Both applications reflect ongoing efforts to streamline zoning processes and ensure compliance with city regulations, addressing historical discrepancies in land use. The outcomes of these proposals will be closely monitored as they move forward to the city council for final approval.
