During a recent meeting of the Cherry Creek School District Board, paraeducators voiced their commitment to enhancing educational conditions and advocating for their roles within the district. Beth Bowen, a special education paraeducator with 21 years of experience, introduced the Paraeducators Association of Cherry Creek (PAC), emphasizing the need for paraeducators to have a formal platform to express their concerns regarding working conditions and to participate in decision-making processes.
Bowen expressed gratitude to the school board for establishing policies that facilitate collective bargaining, allowing employee groups to select representatives for negotiations. She highlighted the importance of supporting ballot measures 4A and 4B, which aim to improve school facilities and enhance staff retention and hiring practices. Bowen underscored that safe and well-maintained schools are crucial for both students and educators, advocating for necessary upgrades to aging buildings.
The PAC's support for these measures reflects a broader commitment to fostering a safe and enriching educational environment. Bowen concluded her remarks by encouraging community members to vote in favor of the proposed initiatives, reinforcing the idea that strong schools are foundational to a thriving community.
