In a recent government meeting, officials unveiled ambitious plans for a new park development aimed at enhancing community engagement and recreational opportunities along the riverfront. The project will capitalize on the natural shade provided by overpasses, incorporating play features, improved lighting for safety, and extended bike and walking paths to encourage active participation.
Key highlights of the park design include a band shell for small concerts, terraced seating areas for picnics, and unique play structures that promote interaction with the environment. The design emphasizes accessibility, ensuring that all community members can enjoy the space. A significant feature will be a large pavilion available for public events, alongside a bike trail that runs through the park, promoting alternative transportation options.
The project is currently out for bid, with a 45-day bidding period expected to conclude soon. Construction is anticipated to begin shortly after the new year, thanks to funding support from the Tax Increment Financing (TIF) district, which allows for the entire park to be developed in one phase rather than in stages.
Additionally, Mike Knott from River Sport highlighted upcoming community events, including the Holiday River Parade, set for December 16. He expressed gratitude for the support received and encouraged participation in the festivities, which will feature a laser show and fireworks. Knott also reported on the successful opening of the new Trailhead bike park, which has quickly become a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts.
The meeting concluded with discussions about the recent participation of Oklahoma teams in the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston, where an all-indigenous rowing crew made history, showcasing the state's commitment to diversity and inclusion in sports.
