In a recent government meeting, the committee approved two significant resolutions aimed at bolstering prosecution efforts in Chautauqua County.
The first resolution authorizes the acceptance of $760,090 in aid to prosecution funds for the years 2024 and 2025. This grant, sourced from the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services, is designated to support the prosecution of felony offenses, particularly violent crimes. The funds will be integrated into the 2025 budget to help offset rising expenses related to these prosecutions.
The second resolution involves the acceptance of an unexpected grant of $200,000 specifically for the prosecution of illegal fentanyl trafficking in Chautauqua County. This funding, also from the Division of Criminal Justice Services, is intended to cover expenses associated with investigating and prosecuting fentanyl-related offenses. The performance period for this grant began on April 1, 2023, and the funds can be utilized until fully expended. For the current year, $50,000 will be allocated in the 2024 budget for necessary equipment and software, while the remaining $150,000 will be deferred for future use.
These resolutions reflect a proactive approach by local authorities to address serious criminal activities and enhance public safety through targeted funding and resources.
