In a recent government meeting, school officials presented the latest letter grades for Kapitiwaite Muenida School, revealing a slight increase in performance metrics but falling just short of achieving a higher letter grade. The school earned a total of 83.64 points, an increase of 2.12 points from the previous year, but missed the next letter grade by a narrow margin of 0.36 points.
The presentation outlined the grading system, which allocates 50% of the score to student growth, 30% to proficiency in English Language Arts (ELA) and math, and 20% to English language learners and readiness/acceleration. Notably, the school reported improvements in several areas, including a 1% increase in ELA scores and a significant 15% increase in 8th-grade math performance.
Key changes implemented last year included a restructuring of the Structured English Immersion (SEI) program, which shifted from grade-level to proficiency-level grouping. This adjustment aimed to better target literacy levels among English language learners. Additionally, students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) received more integrated support, allowing them to access grade-level curriculum while receiving necessary interventions.
The school also discussed its School Integrated Action Plan (SIOP), which includes four goals focused on improving ELA and math scores by 5%. The plan emphasizes collaborative data analysis among teachers to address both academic and behavioral data, aiming to create a more cohesive learning environment.
Looking ahead, school officials expressed optimism about achieving their goal of reaching an A grade next year, highlighting ongoing efforts to enhance educational outcomes through targeted strategies and community involvement. The meeting underscored the school’s commitment to continuous improvement and responsiveness to student needs.
