Heather Lynn Schindler, a beloved educator and cherished member of the Catskill community, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2024, at the age of 57. Born on February 18, 1967, in Catskill, Heather was the daughter of Marsha Bartels and Edmund Smith Junior. She spent her formative years in Lake George, where she developed a close bond with her grandmother, Aretha Humphrey.

Heather's passion for family was evident throughout her life, especially after moving to the Catskills and marrying her soulmate, Emmy \"Eddie\" Schindler, in 1991. Together, they raised three children—Nick, Reed, and Sophie—whom she adored and dedicated herself to, creating lasting memories through family traditions and celebrations.

A passionate educator, Heather earned her master's degree from the University of Albany and devoted 32 years to teaching fourth grade. Her students became like a second family to her, and her warmth and dedication left a profound impact on all who entered her classroom. Colleagues remember her as an advocate for important issues in education and a source of support and friendship.

After retiring in 2023, Heather celebrated her new chapter with a month-long vacation in Siesta Key, Florida, where she enjoyed the sun, loved ones, and her favorite pastime, pickleball. She also cherished time spent at her lake house and the joy of tailgating at Penn State football games with friends.

Heather is survived by her husband, children, mother and stepfather, siblings, and numerous nieces and nephews. Her legacy as a nurturing teacher and devoted friend will be remembered fondly by all who knew her. Heather's life was a testament to love, joy, and the importance of family and community, leaving a lasting mark on the hearts of many.
