The Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District (CFISD) held its regular board meeting on December 5, 2024, highlighting several key events and initiatives. The meeting began with a performance by the Hamilton Middle School Choir, which set a positive tone for the discussions that followed.
Superintendent Dr. Killen shared a recap video showcasing the achievements of students and staff during November and December. He also announced the winners of the annual holiday card contest, which featured over 158 entries. Finley Frazier from Keith Elementary School, Janine Covaines from Sprague Middle School, and Sophia Perales from Cypress Park High School were recognized for their outstanding artwork.
Looking ahead, Dr. Killen reminded attendees about the upcoming 15th annual Houston Methodist Cy Hoops Invitational, scheduled for December 12-14. This boys basketball tournament will support the Cy Fair Education Foundation, which provides scholarships and grants for staff development.
The superintendent emphasized the character trait of empathy for the months of November and December, encouraging all campuses to promote strong character among students. He also announced that CFISD schools will be closed for winter break from December 23 to January 3, with a professional development day for staff on January 6.
In addition, Dr. Killen reminded the community that fireworks are prohibited on school district property during New Year's celebrations, and urged citizens to report any violations to the CFISD police department.
Finally, he acknowledged December 2 as National Special Education Day, expressing gratitude to special education educators and staff for their dedication and hard work in supporting students with special needs.
