City Moves Forward with Exciting Aqua Park Renovation Plans

During the Common Council meeting held on December 2, 2024, in West Bend, significant discussions centered around the proposed renovation of Regner Park Beach and the development of an aqua park. The Parks Department presented a detailed plan requesting permission to proceed with the project, which includes awarding a contract for the renovation of the swim pond, purchasing new aqua park equipment, and installing an additional security camera.

The renovation plan, which involves excavating and grading the existing beach area, is estimated to cost approximately $197,326. BMCI Construction, a local company, submitted the lowest bid at $188,829. The Parks Department expressed confidence in BMCI's ability to complete the work, citing their previous successful projects in the area.

The aqua park equipment, quoted at $154,500, will enhance the recreational offerings at Regner Park, aiming to provide a quality experience for residents while maintaining the park's historic features. Funding for the project is supported by a combination of donations, including $50,000 from the Friends of Parks and Recreation, and a verbal commitment of $20,000 from the Sunrise Rotary. Additional donations are anticipated, which will reduce the reliance on park acquisition fees for the project.

The council also discussed the projected revenues from the aqua park, which are expected to support operations without the need for tax dollars. The Parks Department plans to auction off existing equipment to further fund the renovation, with hopes of exceeding initial estimates.

In addition to the aqua park discussions, the council accepted two notable donations for park improvements: $180 from the Riverside Disc Golf Club for enhancements to the Riverside Park Disc Golf Course and a substantial $60,000 from an anonymous donor for renovations to the White family cabin in Ridgirond Park.

The meeting concluded with the acceptance of a $100,000 cybersecurity grant, aimed at strengthening the city's technology infrastructure, and the approval of additional grant funds for patrol operations.
